Question Referendum Question For You All

Our H.O.R. passed a bill making voter approved referendums be approved again every 8 years.
The vote was approved down party lines: R/YEA - Dems/NAY. Leaving your political party affiliation out of this, do you agree with this or not?

Do not agree, anything like that should be done on a case by case basis. Unless, of course, you are going to use it as a tool against the citizens of the United States for political gain and then it is a very good idea.

Are you saying you're cool with it if it applies to all referendums?

I'll give ya a lawyerly answer on this one - it depends. People and businesses rely on the stability of commercial regulations, so I would hate to see something that puts such measures on a yo-yo string. On the other hand, reactive ballot measures, that are passed according to the passion of the day, probably need to be reconsidered on regular intervals.

Regards,

D-Ray

I meant if it was not originally passed with a date to expire then putting an expiration date on everything that is in place would change the intent of what was passed originally.

Got it. This law would not be retroactive AFAIK.

OK, if that then no, if it should have an expiration date then it should not be a big deal to put one in when passing a bill. Undoing something like that with what we are stuck with for lawmakers would be impossible.

Can the lawmakers add an expiration date that was not written in to the original referendum? Seems to me, nobody is going to write an expiration date into their referendum and would be upset if the House did.

You can't leave party out of this. It's obviously prompted by politics.

Seems the people what what those that carter to the rich don't, hence this is a class issue too.

Dems look out for themselves too.

Anyway something feels wrong about it, in the gut. I know the Founders didn't want a direct democracy but still, the peoples will etc.
