Dadt........................................

Appears to be history.

So, what do you think of gays serving openly in the military?

Gays have always been in the military. ALWAYS.

There were probably queers on the boat with Washington as he crossed the Delaware.

I think it's not just a victory for freedom, it's also a strike against bigotry and the politically motivated religious dogma that perpetuates it.

Or is it a sign of the gathering apocalyse? The death of Western Civilization. The beginning of the end. Part of Obamas sinister plan to "ruin America"?

What say you?

Dave

If I want to know what somebody is doing in their bedroom there are plenty of places to find that on the internet. IMHO everybody needs to mind their own business. In other words... I don't want to hear about what kind of sex you're having and I damn sure won't tell you about my personal life.

True, what others do in private is none of our business. That's the whole point. When I was in the military, and someone was dicovered to be gay, they would get severely beaten (And then thrown out of the military), and their attackers would get away with it. I witnessed this in person, on more than one occasion and it changed my views on such matters forever. This is not just wrong, IMO, it's evil.

I don't understand why they are gay, but I did notice that the beatings and subsequent discharge did nothing to change them. Nothng at all. Makes me think that maybe, just maybe---It's not always (Ever?) a matter of choice.

Anyone who volunteers to risk life and limb for this country deserves more respect than to be beaten and tossed out over something that I believe they may have no control over.

It isn't any of my business what others do in private. But, it becomes my business when I see them being physically abused with impunity. It becomes all of our business.

That's the irony of the DADT; one set of people had to hide a portion of their identity, whether they wanted to or not. What goes on in another's bedroom is certainly none of our business. I'm just as uninterested in a straight person's conquests as I am in a gay person's love life. If someone is willing to put his or her life on the line for all of us, I don't care if they have very baaaaad taste in mammals. Repeal of DADT doesn't mean anyone has to tell, just that people don't have to be afraid of what someone else might tell.

Regards,

D-Ray

Like a lot of things in politics, I think the parties' positions on this issue have more to do with appeasing their respective bases than with any greater principle. As long as the GOP sees the Bible-thumpers as key to their electoral success, their position will remain the same even if the actual GOP politicians couldn't care one way or the other.

That said, it is a blow to individual freedom which will ultimately be corrected when today's youth grows to political maturity/influence. Virtually no 15-25 year olds support the ban on gays in the military (other than a very small Bible-thumper faction).

No one choses to be gay, they are Americans and therefore entitled to the same treatment as any citizen. They asked me to honor and uphold the Constitution. Nowhere was I asked to persecute people bcause of their sexual orientation. We may be straight but we sure as hell are not narrow.

And that's what it's all about, isn't it Finn?

I know it's sometimes difficult for me when I realize a given politician I voted for doesn't really care about the issuse I care about. But, then I realize that that's part of the game. Then I think of all of these dolts who actually (and deeply) believe a certain parties bull**it......and I can't help but wonder; Are they really that gullible? Or do they just have a memory loss issue? Or maybe they actually believe their favorite pundit really is just an honest decent, God fearing fella who would never dream of trying to manipulate them? Oh, wait a minute, that's gullibility, isn't it?

Sorry, Fellas. Just wondering aloud.

As there are no atheists in foxholes, I would tend to hope there'd be no homophobes, either.

But, I digress...
