The tragedy in Afghanistan

You might be wondering to which tragedy I refer, because it is beginning to look like the entire enterprise is a tragedy. But the fact that a madman can not only take the lives of several children, but also further inflame the hatred of the Afghan people, is devastating. The big question is whether we will make it exponentially worse with an accelerated withdrawal. I wish the answer was as easy as saying get us the hell out of there as fast as we can.

Regards,

D-Ray

The end result in Afghanistan will be the same if we leave next week, next year or five years from now. It will remain a chaotic hellhole with or without us.

The real issue is one of saving face while making a graceful exit, to the extent that it is possible.

If a graceful exit was possible at one time, I'm afraid that time has passed.

True enough. The peeing on corpses, Koran burning and mass murder have somehow failed to win over their hearts and minds. Strange folk.

Odd that. Don't they know we are there to save them? Can't they tell?

No doubt, there is no shame in withdrawing. The place is not worth one more life. I agree with Erik, the time to withdraw was right after Tora Bora.

This tragic event might now shed light on the military and how they handle the stress on the soldiers. The being afraid to seek help in fear of ending a career. I know this for a fact it happen to a family member. They were offed a discharge for stress related issues but if they reup'd then all was forgiven? This was during operation Blue to Green in 2004.
