The problem is the human psyche. You cannot make aviation bullet proof, as long as pilots - being risky human beings - are part of the security system of a flight.

He was the age bracket where delusional paranoid schizophrenia appears in a small number of otherwise intelligent young males. Think Robert Schumann as one famous example.

The tragedy is that such a paranoia, like in the case of Lubitz, can be kept totally secret, at least in some cases, so that the best psychiatrists may oversee it. This according to a psychiatrist in German tv yesterday.

One change may well be a more direct communication between health care administrators and those employed in areas critical to public safety.
