Thanks Finn. As a loudish opinionated rightie I'm becoming used to admirers

I disagree.
As a veteran myself with a son on the Army, all these wannabes that go around in their Cabellas Camos carrying their military style assault rifles when they never served give me a case of the ass.
But I forgive you Finn.

I like this one too. I grew up using a lever action so I'm still partial to them.
Kid with a small lever action rifle beats a man with an automatic.

Seems like a waste of high-energy ammo but what else is there to do with it?
Precision air guns make more sense to me for punching paper, something like this bucket list jewel;

Fortunate for you.
For some people in Aurora Colorado, and Newtown Connecticut, not so much.

I've never shot a quality air rifle. I'd like to try though, I spent a lot of time in the old Ys' air rifle club growing up (thanks dad!).
I've got some gun folks as friends and relatives so been lucky enough to shoot some nice guns though. I prefer a bolt action 22 for target shooting, although the 1911 Tom mentioned is a wonderful machine.

They are fun to shoot, but with factory ammo getting close to 50 cents a pop it gets expensive. Of course for a rich Republican like you, that's no problem.

Heck my bro in law (the owner) refuses money for ammo at the range! I didn't know they were that much. It's the nicest most natural feeling pistol I've ever fired.
He's non political but does do very well for himself. Me, I'm stuck in the median range.

So I guess what they have to do is create some kind of artificial demand so that they can keep selling in volume.

yeah
buy Black Rain AR-15s before Obama gets them taken off the market.
Same reason everyone is running to Walmart to buy ammo all the time.

John Browning was a genius when it came to firearm design.
Better than that damned commie Kalashnikoff.
