The goal of advertising is to modify behavior. And the motivation is not altruistic.

Last I looked, businesses had competition and lacked enforcement power. Government, by definition, lacks both.

That wasn't the point. Icenine used an example of a father leaving a gun on a table. His son subsequently shot himself. The parallel with the pool is salient in this context. That is, more irresponsible parents lose kids to drowning than accidental shootings. The use of a gun to commit a crime is an entirely different issue.

The governments role is supposed to be to do what we tell them, not the other way around.

BH, I'd like to ask you to back up your assertion that most homicides here are related to the War On Drugs. I think that's flat out wrong but I suppose your libertarian mind would like to merge those two phenomena so that you could claim that ending one would take care of most of the other.
