I'm pretty sure neither side in this cultural war is really in any position to occupy some intellect/knowledge high ground.

Put together a random pack of liberals, put a world map in front of them and ask each of them to put their finger on Afghanistan, where we have been at war for just short of two decades. Can five percent of them do it? I kinda fuckin' doubt it. Could more liberal Democrats identify Afghanistan than conservative Republicans? Probably, but not by much.
