no one is thinking about this issue ...long term implications of GOP budget busting.
Indeed. For every questionable study that the right drags out as an example of extreme government wastefulness, there are many, many more that are quietly struggling on fumes which promise such enormous medical benefits to society in general.

BTW, good thread Robbin.

Gingrich has written another book containing his vision for America? I can only imagine what a ridiculous, fairytale filled tome that is.

As for the rest of it; Ha, Ha, Ha..................

Here is a fun one. Here we have the wonderful state of hate, Florida .
They like the sequester but it is hurricane season and they made need help. Here is the tip of their iceberg, yep, penny wise and pound foolish. Maybe they need to talk to homeowners hit by Sandy.

Quote:
Protections for Clean Air and Clean Water:
Florida would lose about $5.2 million in
environmental funding to ensure clean water and air quality, as well as prevent pollution from
pesticides and hazardous waste. In addition, Florida could lose another $1.1 million in grants for
fish and wildlife protection.

Military Readiness:
In Florida, approximately 31,000 civilian Department of Defense employees
would be furloughed, reducing gross pay by around $183.2 million in total.

Army: Base operation funding would be cut by about $7 million in Florida.

Air Force: Funding for Air Force operations in Florida would be cut by about $23 million.

Navy: $135 million in funding for aircraft depot maintenance in Jacksonville and four
demolition projects in Pensacola ($3.2 million) could be canceled.

Public Health:
Florida will lose approximately $1.8 million in funds to help upgrade its ability to
respond to public health threats including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological,
chemical, nuclear, and radiological events. In addition, Florida will lose about $5 million in grants
to help prevent and treat substance abuse, resulting in around 4500 fewer admissions to substance
abuse programs. And the Florida State Department of Health will lose about $1.4 million resulting
in around 35,900 fewer HIV tests

Nutrition Assistance for Seniors
: Florida would lose approximately $3.8 million in funds that
provide meals for seniors.

Cuts to small business:
Small businesses create two-thirds of all new jobs in America. Instead
of helping small businesses expand and hire, the automatic cuts would reduce loan guarantees
to small businesses by up to approximately $900 million.

Cuts to food safety:
Outbreaks of foodborne illness are a serious threat to families and public
health. If sequestration takes effect, up to 2,100 fewer food inspections could occur, putting
families at risk and costing billions in lost food production

Emergency responders
– FEMA would need to reduce funding for State and local grants that
support firefighter positions and State and local emergency management personnel, hampering our
ability to respond to natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy and other emergencies

He was right about Ryan's budget.....

Many DOD types like myself, those who work for the military as GS employees or as contractors tend to vote GOP because we feel they will spend money and keep us employed. The sequester I am sure has hurt GOP support in this community. Federal employees are losing about 30% of their take home pay right now. That is why the GOP does want to end the sequester as far as the DOD is concerned, but not on things that help poor people.

I meant more along the lines of hurricanes and the sequester and how Floridians could be in deep doo-doo like some Sandy victims.

COMMENTARY

It did not take long for already struggling Garden State residents to feel the impact from Congresses’ inability to manage money. If you haven’t heard yet, more than $2.9 billion in relief money for victims of Superstorm Sandy has been cut in the wake of the March 1 sequester.

The disaster relief fund of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will lose $1 billion and another $1.9 billion earmarked for transportation repairs; Army Corps of Engineers’ flood mitigation projects and Community Development Block Grants are also expected to be chopped.

Oh I agree. I am just making a point that the GOP has sort of waged war on their own with the sequester. We used to be up in your neck of the woods, until BRAC.
