E.S.P. : Miles Davis

Tony Williams
Herbie Hancock
Wayne Shorter
Ron Carter

This is the first release from the second great quintet.
the compositions here are all from members of the group minus Williams.

The track "IRIS" makes this one a must.

I really like Savoy Brown but was lukewarm on Foghat, even though 3 Savoy Brown members formed Foghat. Raw Sienna also had a nice cover.

Blue Matter
Raw Sienna
Looking In
Hellbound Train
Street Corner Talking

All on the vinyl.

The last two, which are pretty good, I particularly like Hellbound Train (more of a rock album than a blues album), were with the new band after Lonesome Dave, Tone Stevens, and Roger Earl left the band. But those three older albums are all among my favorites of the 60's and 70's. Particularly Looking In.

From Hellbound Train...

One of my favorite simple rock songs...I'm not sure why. I just can't sit still whenever I hear that intro.

Led Zeppelin, Houses of the Holy on 180 gram vinyl.

BTW, my "new" vinyl set-up is a Revox B795 Linatrak, recently rebuilt by Jack Clark at JM Audio Arts with a brand new Nagaoka MP200 Cartridge. Set up on Symposium Rollerblocks.

The sound is spectacular.

Nice. Still running the Magnavox amp?

I keep feeling the need for a better turntable even tho most of what I listen to is CD. I've been hoping for a Thorens at a decent price point under the price of roundtrip airfare to Montego Bay but...

Playing some old Beach Boys collection while trimming some nice sativa hybrid called Northern Lights. The Santa Ana's are blowing toasty warm right before Halloween. Life's good.

Ah, I remember the Santa Anas well from my SoCal days. They ranged from soothingly warm to living in a giant hair dryer. I do occasionally miss living in Calipornia, though. Beautiful place, beautiful people.

No, McIntosh MA6900. I still have the Maggie, I just need to get around to figuring out why it has a dead channel.

Thorens are great turntables. I wish you luck in your search. Ya never know what you might stumble upon so, don't give up hope my good man.

I bought the Revox for $100 in working condition. It had an ancient Grado cart on it that didn't last very long after I started using it. The seller told me it had been in his uncles garage for twenty years or more before the old guy died. That it worked at all after 20 years exposed to the Southeast Virginia heat and humidity is amazing. Cleaned and lubricated, there were springs, the string, a couple capacitors that needed replacement and the interconnect plugs had some corrosion so, Jack replaced those as well. It's not the prettiest to look at, kind of clunky and industrial in appearance but I love this thing. The sound is wonderful.
