Meg Graham @megancgraham
According to Pathmatics, Verizon spent an estimated $406,600 in IG ads between 5/22-6/20. The firm said Verizon spent $1,460,300 on FB in that same period (Making it the 78th largest advertiser on FB in that period, with P&G, HBO, Biden & Trump spending most in that period on FB)

Verizon is the latest marketer to say it will pause ads on Facebook and Instagram "until Facebook can create an acceptable solution that makes us comfortable and is consistent with what we've done with YouTube and other partners."

Good news.
Sadly it takes a threat to their bottom line before they'll act responsibly. FeckFacebook needs to be a responsible actor in the marketplace. Same as any other.

Facebook and Twitter stocks dive as Unilever halts advertising
https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/26/tech/...ver/index.html
Quote:
Shares of both Facebook and Twitter were down more than 7% in mid-day trading Friday after Unilever said it would pull its advertising from the social media companies for the rest of the year.
"Given our Responsibility Framework and the polarized atmosphere in the U.S., we have decided that starting now through at least the end of the year, we will not run brand advertising in social media newsfeed platforms Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in the U.S.," the company said in a statement. "Continuing to advertise on these platforms at this time would not add value to people and society. We will be monitoring ongoing and will revisit our current position if necessary."
The massive household goods company's decision was driven by concerns over hate speech and divisive content on the platforms, it said. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the news.
"Based on the current polarization and the election that we are having in the US, there needs to be much more enforcement in the area of hate speech," Luis Di Como, Unilever's executive vice president of global media, told the Journal in an interview.

Banning Donny from both platforms would be a great start to ending the hate.

It’s Time to Defund Fox "News"
THE REAL CULPRIT
If business types really care about social justice, they’ll defund the country’s most prominent purveyor of anti-justice poison. And here’s an unlikely model for them to follow.

I had a cordial ca 40 minuits or so with a random older woman in my usual watering hole, who was a vascillating Trump supporter, who asked me how I felt about him, and said she was worried basically about his mental and behavioral fitness to remain an effective potus. I sighed, and our convo began.

Reddit bans r/The_Donald as part of a major expansion of its rules
https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/29/2...t-policy-rules
Facebook and Twitter should be taking notes. Hate-mongering and fake "news" is destroying democracy, and needs to be shut down. Journalism should be the province of journalists, and real news organizations, as it has always been in the past. Unfiltered Social Media is a cesspool of nonsense, lies, fake news and hate, especially from the far-right.

Was she wearing a mask? The longer the interaction, the greater the risk. 40 minutes is starting to be a long time in this context.
