The Lives Of Others

An excellent film about the effects of The STASI on the lives
of East Germans.

In East Germany all typewriters had to be registered.

Excellent flick. Another good German movie on the subject of East Germany is "Good Bye Lenin!" Funny, interesting movie.

A dog can do serious damage especially if it is a pit bull. Plus rabies.

I saw "Goodbye Lenin" several times and it was laughable the extent the
son undertook to preserve his mother beloved East Germany.

I wandered the streets of East Berlin on several occasions back in the Iron Curtain days. They compelled you to exchange 25 Deutschmarks into 25 Ostmarks on a 1:1 basis at Checkpoint Charlie when you went over for a day on a tourist visa (when you could buy Ostmarks at least 5 times cheaper in West Berlin at the rail station). It was damned difficult to spend 25 Ostmarks in day over there as there was essentially nothing worth buying other than mediocre beer. Pretty dismal place. The first several hundred meters beyond the Wall inside of East Berlin didn't look a lot better than it must have in May of 1945.

I still have quite a few mementos (e.g., Soviet Army belt buckles, medals, etc.) that I traded Soviet troops for Marlboro cigarettes I bought at the PX for less than $.20 a pack.

My one day there in June of '89 was much the same. We had to get $20 and not $25 but only spent about 2 on terrible beer, sausage and even ice cream. Ended up giving most of it to women with children in the area near the train station.

I had the opportunity once when I was attending a meeting in West Berlin. To be honest I could not understand the attraction and did not visit East Berlin.

Now Munich, Frankfurt and Nurnberg were entirely different, along with side tripd to Rotenburg and Linderhof.

My ankles are deathly afraid of Chihuahuas. Mean little buggers.

Staffordshires are bred to be stupid with too much aggression built in. I guess that's why they're so popular with some other inbred groups...gangstas & teabaggers.

If I had the room for dogs? I would have 1) Damnations 2) Labs 3)Golden Retrievers. If you want a dog that's good at killing other dogs and people ocassionally? Get a Pit.

I like Malinois, too.
