Whataboutery is the general class of 'defense' in which one responds to criticism for misdeeds by saying, in effect, 'Well, whatabout this totally unrelated misdeed of the other guys?'
Well, here's whatabout it:
1. If the other wrong thing was done, it doesn't make your wrong thing OK.
2. You're just using tactics to try to make the discussion be about the other guy's supposed wrong thing, so it won't be about yours.
Whataboutery is always bullshit, and a sign that no real defense is available for the original accusation.
