I don't really practice in intellectual property, but my understanding is that the patent laws grant a legal monopoly to the patent holder for the duration of the patent.
Unfortunately, in our history, no forces are more revered than market forces. If the market will bear $750 per pill, then the market has spoken. The circus surrounding the negotiation of the ACA demonstrated how necessary it was to retain full fledged capitalism as a central feature in order to get it passed.
To expect anything other than the almighty market to determine value is just my Utopian pipe dream.
