Chicago recorded music community...loss

In 1972 Val Camilletti leased the storefront that had previously been one of the locations for a recently bankrupt chain of record shops. Val had managed that location since 1968 and she decided to take a shot at running her own operation. That shot lasted 46 years. Val died of breast cancer yesterday morning. "Val's Halla" records was the great Chicago institution for music lovers, and particularly vinyl lovers, in Chicago for all those years. Another Val's Halla anniversary party was planned for this weekend, sadly it will be a different sort of celebration this year. The future of Val's is uncertain at this time.

I bought a lot of vinyl from Val. It's a terrible loss.
