So what is the solution?

If appropriate steps were implemented years ago like a national standardized permitting and licensing. With a mental fitness and crosschecked background investigation. No private unsupervised weapon transfers. Need to do all transfers thru a police department without a charge at time. Fees from gun permits are apportioned from owners. Require owners to carry insurance.
Then we may have never reached this level of senseless violence. My fear is now that the window of getting any effective regulation not going to happen. Not until an event is so heinous that even those who sold their souls to the NRA can't be silent anymore.
