I've seen the same sort of thing. A supply company put in a 'repackage from bulk' operation that required maybe 50K worth of equipment. Small scale stuff, but it took them months to get it going, and they had no budget for maintenance. When something broke, they had to scramble every time for money. Then when something a little pricy broke, they couldn't get the money to fix it. "Capital expenses are frozen." Basically, they never got it going again. Junked the whole investment.

I blamed it on 'a supply company trying to do a manufacturing-type operation.' Sad to hear that guys who are flat-out manufacturers are just as stupid.

Avoid downtime. Stock critical parts. You wouldn't think that would be such an obscure concept....
