JKG is very readable. His son also writes well IMHO. Lester Thurow is also very readable. Kenneth J. Arrow is another to keep in mind. Their scholarly writing tends to be less readable without a few courses in economics. Now, if you're trying to get some sleep, then John Maynard Keynes is the ticket.
