This I imagine may be one of the sticky parts of maritime law finn mentioned. 'You can't take the ship. It is owned by [us, the holding company], but we had nothing to do with the accident! The operating company pays us to use the ship, and they are responsible for safe operation.'
BTW, the ship may be worth $100Million, and the cargo more.
