So just maybe the early settlers here were not really God fearing, they just did not want to spend a couple of days in the stocks. I wonder if they posted a guard when a woman was in the stocks overnight or did they leave her at the tender mercies of every horny lout.
Just how Christian was it to have bond servants, you know the colonial H1B visa.
Or public lashings.
