Many professionals develop a too-exalted view of their own ability. Based on their deep knowledge of a specialty, and the privileges and prerogatives of their professional status, they think they are truly superior, and deserving of similar privilege and authority outside their specialty.

And of course if one is superior, then others must be inferior--persons unlike himself, persons of low ambition, low ability, low achievement. Now if society insists, in certain ways, in saying he should share fundamental identity with such low value, and even disreputable and evil people, there is going to be a likely reaction in the mind. Clue: it's not love.

I think too much fuss is made over Carson's 'professional accomplishments.' I think he gets too much credit for the accomplishments of colleagues and teammates. And certainly, he shows strong signs of messed-up thinking, outside his professional sphere.
