Remember, however, that it is at least as much a function of increased life expectancy as birth rate. When we were an agrarian society, we had a much higher birth rate, but a much lower life expectancy. The pressure comes from both ends of the life cycle, but that doesn't mean we are going to create death panels. We're just going to start making everyone retire to the coal mines.
