That suggests he's making an honest mistake, when it's clear that he's a shameless flack who is essentially
lying in appropriating the name of civil rights fighters to support his opposition to facilitating voting.
It's sort of like the way people like to say they 'mispoke' when they have to walk back deliberate misrepresentations or insults.
