Walls are only conceivably of use where reaction forces can reach them quickly in event of an attempt to breach. This basically means urban or near-urban areas only. Anywhere else they are a waste of money, a symbolic satisfaction of the xenophobia/racism Trump has whipped up in his base, and nothing else.
