Just got back from a double bill concert, David Gray and Alison Krauss. Gray made the most extensive use of sampling that I had ever seen in live show. I think that it is a technique that Les Paul invented. He plays a few bars of a sample on the acoustic guitar, starts it repeating, follows up with another fill, and adds one or two more, leaves them going and plays the piano. Very interesting to watch and good musically.

As anyone who has listened to her knows, Alison Krauss has a terrific voice. She didn't need studio takes, she was right on the mark throughout the show. She has been with several of the members of her band for nearly thirty years. It shows. High quality musicianship all around.

And besides hearing some pretty good music (even if it is not my typical go to), I scored big points with my wife - she had been wanting to see Alison Krauss for a long time.

Next show - Tree Machines on October 20.
