The problem with most data is that it comes in the form of theories from the minds of people. It isn't always the theory that makes the most sense that is correct, nor is it always the majority that is correct. Science evolves and changes as new things are discovered, sometimes dramatically. It boils down to who do you believe.

Now, having said that, I don't see any reason not to develop new and alternative forms of energy. I do see a huge problem with the economics of trying to completely switch from coal/oil/natural gas to solar/wind/whatever at the rate which they are trying to push, especially if it isn't going to be done on a global scale. China alone can negate most of the world progress.
