So far, I've learned just from reading the preface, that neither one of those things would have stopped anything. In fact, people had both and it didn't stop the rise of Fascism, it helped fuel it....

That's "Dark Towers" and yes, that was King. I never read that series, but, I've read nearly everything else, as I said, up tp "Bag of Bones". Including the "Bachman Books".
