Invoking local rights, Utah protesters cross into federal land

A local county commissioner here frustrated with what he called overreach by the federal government led a protest ride of several dozen all-terrain vehicles into a public canyon closed off by the Bureau of Land Management.

“It feels great,” said San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman after he rode two miles past a sign forbidding entry by motorized vehicles. “That line I crossed was a pretty arbitrary thing.”

The 50-year-old Lyman said the event was a way to assert county sovereignty over Recapture Canyon, a remote site in southeast Utah.

They need to be reminded just because it in you live close by you don't own it. Same with neighbors of mine and who think my land if wild and unkempt so up for grabs .
So they can do what they like on it without asking or caring. Dump that couch hunt or just walk through. I had one who tried to put a shed on my property, pulled up the pegs. A little talk from the sheriff stopped that guy. BTW he paid for them to be replaced!


Jezz if you own land and had people traipsing willy nilly thinking they could do what ever they wanted would you not get upset? Utah is a state and get federal funds when needed for upkeep right?

Buy your own land if you want a playground. O wait they are cheap skates after all.....

Counties aren't sovereign. They are utterly the creatures of state law.

States and the Federals share sovereignty. Feds get what the Federal Constitution says they get, States get 'the rest.'

I kinda figured when Bundy didn't get his brains blown out that shortly thereafter every yahoo with an ax to grind would be dancing around on federal property.

Sounds like Cliven Bundy is tired of all those freeloading militia punks mooching off of him since their EBT cards ran out. Not to mention scaring his neighbors and sexually abusing the local livestock. So he sends them on a big fat snipe hunt up in Utah and the goat ropers fall for it.
