What makes politics so divisive?

It seems when talking politics people throw logic and reason out the door. The right and left both do it. Why?
What causes a smart pleasant person to become an opinionated jerk when someone contradicts their beliefs?
What do you think?

I think it's because there is no real right or wrong in politics.. Politicians throw all reason out the window and do what they want.. when people talk about politics, it's all about what they want...

Political science is a real oxymoron in my book.. no science behind it... just people with ideas and agendas...

I agree, but what makes a well intended person adapt the policies his party has set on issues that he would be against if he did not feel he was part of that party?

I see it all the time, talk to someone as soon as an issue/news event comes to light and then again a day or two later and bam they have "rethought the issue" and now they are right in line with the party they identify with.

Often leading the charge.

Back home I used to vote the man, even though I was a member of the Conservative party. I don't see much of that here but then we never had a Karl Rove there either. Rove did a lot to polarize every situation and we are just now reaping what was sown.

I think it started under Clinton when he was mauled for getting a blow job.
James Carville was a big contributor to all things right are wrong. Rove certainly returned the favor in the slimiest of ways.

I think it's simply because this nation has been content to sit back and do nothing while both parties became slaves to special interest groups who serve agendas instead of the country.

When the republican small business owner supports something because his party told him it was good for him, he didn't bother too see that it benefitted someone who wanted to put him out of business 1000 times more. When the democrat union member supported his party's agenda, he didn't see it meant having the government dictate every moment of his life.

The balance was lost, and now real America is a ping pong ball being knocked about between opposing forces.
