$2 Billion in Tax subsidies for early retiree health care

"Investigators for the House Energy and Commerce Committee have discovered that a little-known provision in the national health care law has allowed the federal government to pay nearly $2 billion to unions, state public employee systems, and big corporations to subsidize health coverage costs for early retirees. At the current rate of payment, the $5 billion appropriated for the program could be exhausted well before it is set to expire."

So, we're giving out huge tax subsidies, including (of course) the UAW, and huge corporations, to offset their employee benefit costs?

Shall I conclude that we'll not be bitching any more on this forum about how the Republicans always give tax breaks to the rich and big business? :p

In an era when the average Joe is going into dept to cover their health care expenses, how is this logical, or forgivable?

:D We can all dream can't we?

I'm basically tired of and opposed to all forms of subsidies for this or anything else. I don't like the idea of Congress (or the Administration) trying to manage public or corporate behaviour through the tax code.

This one is no more right (or wrong) than all the rest of them IMHO.

I concur.

I also agree with one exception, if the government wants my to buy health insurance but does nowt to regulate the premiums then I expect to be subsidized, either that or have the cojones to do Single Payer.

I agree with this.

I didn't read the original article, but I wonder what the truth behind the headline really is. There's usually more to a story than can be related in a sentence or two, especially when some bias might be involved.

For real. Do it for everyone, or do it for no one.

Of course not. Don't be naive.
