Trump’s backward-looking trade strategy threatens America’s future, experts say

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/...ookings-645591

Trumpies, of course, don’t trust actual experts. Donny “knows better”. Morons. Mueller, please hurry!

Trump’s tariffs are already backfiring

Did anyone (besides Trumpie morons) really expect otherwise?

America's booming bourbon business caught in the crosshairs of Trump's trade war

China, Mexico, Canada and the European Union slapped tariffs on America's booming bourbon industry.

Tariffs are a strategic blow to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's home state of Kentucky.

As the birthplace of bourbon, Kentucky produces 95 percent of the world's supply, employs approximately 17,500 workers and generates a cool $8.5 billion annually.

Psssst! Hey, rest of the world! Donny has his name on hotels and properties around the world. He derives a lot of income from this. Time to get creative, start getting that name torn down everywhere, not just Panama. Money and publicity, the only two things Donny cares about.

Donny threatens China with another $200B, because, of course, the Chinese immediately retaliated against his ill advised initial $50B in tariffs. Tit for tat, no one "wins" this ignorant game.

Thankfully, the Chinese are smart enough to target Donny's base. When will they finally wake up, and run him out of office? They obviously aren't too bright, as they bought into his con in the first place, but when this hits their wallets, maybe they will realize he's a loser...

This week in Trumponomics: The Trump trade war starts to hurt

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/week-...161250141.html

Here’s a roundup of Wall Street sentiment on the Trump trade war from the last few days:

“A trade war coupled with a confidence shock could push the US to the brink of recession.” – Bank of America Merrill Lynch

“The bumpy road ahead suggests uncertainty will remain high and will continue to have an adverse impact on sentiment and activity.” – Citibank

“Equities continue to be stuck in their ‘fat and flat’ range after renewed concerns on trade conflict drove a global risk-off.” – Goldman Sachs

Trump is essentially playing chicken with financial markets, hoping his madman approach to economic pain will force trade partners to blink first. But they’re not blinking. Instead of making concessions, China, Canada and the European Union have all raised tariffs on imports from the United States in the same proportion as Trump has raised tariffs on imports from those nations.

Harley-Davidson Inc. plans to move production overseas for motorcycles it sells in Europe, in light of tariffs imposed by the European Union that went into effect on Friday.

The company said in a securities filing Monday that it expects the ramping up of production overseas to take at least nine to 18 months...

EU officials have said the EU’S tariffs are a response to the U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum.

How long until Trump backs down on this tariff war and takes credit for making us stronger and then spins off in another direction to make us even stronger? The thing is, tariffs/globalization is a key issue with his nativist base and they want to fight and win a war. Is a trade war going to be Trump's WWII? After all, WWII was the war that made America great.

Apparently GM will be using a Mexican factory and workforce they've had for years. Even with the tariff, the car will be more profitable made in Mexico. On the other hand, with the tariffs Harley's EU sales will be more profitable if they hire a European firm to build their motorcycles. In both cases it's the buyer who loses in this trade war through higher prices and the seller who sells less product.
