Manson Member Released

I know at her age she is not much of a threat to society but I think she should not have been released.

I always figured that "Lulu" or any of the other members of the "Tate/LaBianca" killers would never get out. I figure if you murder somebody, and it doesn’t have to be premeditated, you should have pretty much forfeited your freedom for the duration.

I did look into this further after your post. Apparently when the death penalty was abolished in California, their terms were changed to life imprisonment with option of parole. Newsom was appealing the parole whenever it cam up and eventually he stopped, and thus they are being released now.

Squeaky Fromme was paroled a couple of years (?) ago and she is living in upstate NY peacefully and I guess Newsom expects Van-Houten to do the same. Atkins passed away in 2009 and Kerwinkel was also paroled last year but Newsom blocked it.

Manson's death made it possible. No one was going to be paroled while he was alive.

Rajoo, I had forgotten about Squeaky Fromme being paroled. I think she should have stayed incarcerated too.

They all should have been, animals every one of them, not humans and using drugs as an excuse is BS. But once Squeaky she was let out, tough to keep others incarcerated indefinitely.

I also believe a life sentence speaks for itself.
Especially since she was due to be put to death in the first place. Be thankful for that not happening I'd say......

Hey barbara...I don't know if you're interested in more specifics about the Manson family, there is a whole bunch of stuff out there, "Helter Skelter" by Bugliosi the most prominent. But the book that really is the definitive history of the family is...

The Family: The Story of Charles Manson's Dune Buggy Attack Battalion. by Ed Sanders

Synopsis from the Amazon Page...

Quote:

Ed Sanders's unnerving and detailed look at the horror dealt by Manson and his followers is a classic of the true-crime genre. The Family was originally published in 1971 and remains the most meticulously researched account of the most notorious murders of the 1960s.

Using firsthand accounts from some of the family's infamous members, including the wizard himself, Sanders examines not only the origins and legacy of Manson and his family, but also the mysteries that persist. Completely revised and updated, this edition features 25 harrowing black-and-white photos from the investigation.

"One of the best-researched, best-written, thoroughly-constructed, and eminently significant books of our times. . . . A masterpiece." -- Boston Phoenix
The first time I read this, I couldn't put it down. It's awful and wonderful. Ed Sanders is an interesting guy. He's a poet, singer, activist, author, publisher and co-founder and longtime member of the rock band The Fugs. There were some complaints about Sanders' use of 60's "hipster lingo", but the book was written in 1970-71, and Sanders was/still is, pretty hip. He wasn't making light of any of it, he was using the language, terminology, and referencing the social/cultural environment of the times.

I feel like I got to know these people. Not sure if that's a 100% good thing or not.
