And now we have Trump's DHS Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen (of obvious Scandinavian lineage and a graduate of Georgetown's School of Foreign Service) claiming that she doesn't know that Norway is a predominately white country (in an effort to provide cover for Trump's racist remark). She's either profoundly incompetent or lying through her teeth.

Between Cotton and Perdue willingness to lie for Trump, we now have a cabinet secretary doing the same thing (or too ignorant to know that Norwegians (and people like herself) are white).

What "American ideal" would that be? The idea of a workforce where labor rates are artificially tamped down by artificially increasing supply? The ideal that there's no rule of law - including immigration law - and laws are meant to be twisted or ignored for political expediency? The idea that we should break the social safety net for citizens, and drive up costs, at the expense of illegal immigrants?

There are social and economic costs to this, as this Californian - who calls himself a liberal - points out:

•Competition for affordable housing: 1.5 million Californians pay more than half their income for housing, a result of overcrowding.

•More than 20 million tons of greenhouse gases are added each year by undocumented residents. California’s annual per-capita carbon dioxide production is 10 metric tons/per person.

•Competition for low-wage jobs is increased. Middle-income employers can pay lower wages.

•Allowing illegal immigrants to live and drive contributes to wasted time in traffic and greenhouse gas production.

•English language learners in the classroom lower academic performance by diverting limited educational resources. California has almost 1.4 million English language learners, and has the highest student/teacher ratio of all the large states. California scores lower than average for the nation in reading, mathematics and science.

Sure, you can also say that there's an economic benefit to these individuals who contribute as workers. But it doesn't wash. Data shows that revenues don't offset costs - not by a long shot - when factoring in uncompensated medical care, cost of education, and cost of incarceration. What American ideal or moral imperative is supported by the idea that citizens must run up debt to accommodate individuals who are in the country illegally?

I know you desperately want to talk about perceived, or alleged "racism" rather than this, but at the end of the day your allegation, and that of your advocates in the political class, that immigration reform is "racist" is far more harmful.

Everyone is already "paying the price": billions per year.

That all men are created equal (regardless of skin color). In the words of MLK that men are judged not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character. Even you Trump sycophants should know that.

BTW, the shithole meeting was not about illegal immigration. It was rules/conditions for legal immigration.

No doubt. The shift of the tax burden away from corporations and the 1% will cost us billions per year. We haven’t produced enough kids to pay the enormous upcoming costs of Medicare and Social Security, so essential to retiring boomers, most of whom haven’t saved enough. Immigrants are absolutely required to make up the difference. Along with far higher taxes on the 1%.

"Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, said on Tuesday that he had paid $130,000 out of his own pocket to a pornographic-film actress who had once claimed to have had an affair with Mr. Trump.
In the most detailed explanation of the 2016 payment made to the actress, Stephanie Clifford, Mr. Cohen, who worked as a counsel to the Trump Organization for more than a decade, said he was not reimbursed for the payment.
“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” Mr. Cohen said in a statement to The New York Times. “The payment to Ms. Clifford was lawful, and was not a campaign contribution or a campaign expenditure by anyone.”
He declined to answer several follow-up questions, including whether Mr. Trump had been aware that Mr. Cohen made the payment, why he made the payment or whether he had made similar payments to other people over the years.
Mr. Cohen has previously said that Mr. Trump has denied an affair with Ms. Clifford, whose stage name is Stormy Daniels. She has said the affair took place soon after Mr. Trump’s wife, Melania, gave birth to the couple’s son, Barron." NY Times

No, it doesn't. It's all about trying to avoid criminal charges for a campaign finance crime.

All this proves, the average Republican voter is as gullible as the party leaders believe them to be. Feed them a story no matter how outlandish it may be in order for them to be distracted long enough from the truth. Till the next news flash is there to distract.
