The only difference...in 1920's Italy, the targeted scapegoats were communists. In 2020's USA, the targeted scapegoats are anybody who isn't a white supremacist christian nationalistic fanatic. How did Italian fascists take over? By generating fear of the next election cycle in their political opponents, if they did not get on the anti-communist bandwagon.

Fear of the 2024 Republican primary season is the only reason why Jim Jordan even has a chance at becoming speaker.
