Jeb Bush's "Free Stuff" Racial Insult Was a Shrewd Calculation

When this first came out yesterday, the initial reaction was that Jeb has committed a gaffe. But it's not that at all. He knows exactly what the white southern Republican Primary voters want to hear.

GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush knew exactly what he was doing when he insulted African-American voters by alleging that the Democrats buy their votes with "free stuff." In fact, it was no accident that he hurled his slur at Democrats at a campaign stop in South Carolina.

Bush is wallowing in single digits in the polls and he needed some spark to get the attention and touch the nerve of Deep South white, conservative voters.
Quote:

The "free stuff" to blacks dig was simply etching a lurid racial stereotype graphic to it for conservative voters. And stereotype it is. The majority of the recipients of these programs have always been white seniors, retirees, women, and children, and white workers. But these programs have been artfully sold to many Americans as handouts to lazy, undeserving blacks, Hispanics and minorities.

Poor Johnny Bush, he's got that silver foot so far down his throat, it's dangling out his arsehole. :D

It plays to the resentments of their base. They're led to believe that the problems in their lives are caused by Mexicans taking their jobs, blacks taking their money, Muslims threatening their lives and religion, and gays ruining their marriages. Nothing unifies a political movement like a common enemy - better yet, four common enemies.

I gotta admit, this one is funny. :D

How Ironic that he would bring this up considering the free stuff politicians get from lobbyist for their votes.....

Good point.

Jeb really made out like a bandit when he was Governor of Florida.

Quote:

In the wake of the 2008 disaster, when Wall Street’s shenanigans nearly brought down the world economy, Florida’s public employees lost a billion dollars – but their former governor walked away with a cool $2.2 million, representing a 770% increase in his paycheck. In the seven years since, police officers, firefighters and school teachers in the Sunshine State have seen their pensions dry up, while Jeb has made another $27 million. That works out to an average annual income of $4 million a year. His current net worth is now estimated at between $19 and $22 million. Jeb says, “Thank God for term limits..I’ve been truly blessed to be able to be more successful than I imagined.”

God had less to do with it than his friends at Lehman Brothers – to whom his administration handed $250 million of public employee pension funds between 2005 and 2006. That move reaped Lehman a tidy $5 million in “fees.” As a reward, Lehman Brothers gave Jeb a nice little job at their firm as a “consultant” after his term as governor was over. Annual salary: $1.3 million. Meanwhile, his old cronies back at the state capitol in Tallahassee kept up the good work, as the State Board of Administration shoveled another $1.26 billion of public employee pension money into that same Lehman Brothers fund. The state continued to fill the Lehman Brothers’ trough, despite the fact that the company’s own statements of cash flows for the three years leading up to the collapse indicated that disaster was imminent.

Jeb Bush insulted the Democrats by saying "free stuff." In fact, it's true as that's what they do to get votes and skin color doesn't matter. Your propaganda rag is just insinuating for dumb asses to read what they want to.

The "free stuff" quote was made to a white audience and directed specifically at blacks.

If you think what he did is a good way for the GOP to appeal to African-Americans, here's a thorough analysis of how wrong Jeb's assertion was.

Hey--you guys are playing the Race Card again.... :puke

We need a tag for this. If charging racism is 'playing the race card,' what shall we call naked appeals to racial animus? Ah! How about 'playing the klan kard?'
