Meanwhile we roll back our protections. We used to be a world leader, now we're a kleptocracy....or is it a corporatocracy.....
Either way, we can kiss clean air and water goodbye. |
Here in Ca. we still have unsafe levels of Mercury toxicity in almost every body of water going back to the famous gold rush more than 150 years ago. Whether it is from using Mercury to separate gold from ore or the mining of Mercury itself. In the SF bay itself there is still enough residual Mercury runoff reaming that everybody is warned to not to consume more than 1/2lb per month, and where there is PCB's, none at all. Just so happens the proximity for no eating your catch is the Richmond Chevron refinery.

A problem, afaik, anywhere, particularly in the American West, where mining was common and unregulated.

So much for "being good custodians of our planet" and "leaving the country a better place to be for future generations" like they used to say when I was a young pup. Carl |
