Only the Best People

I suppose I'm a late in starting an "Only the Best People" thread after watching the dumpster fire full of clowns appointed to the Trump administration. Here's the latest installment:

Brenda Fitzgerald, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has resigned.

Fitzgerald had been under fire for not divesting some financial holdings and was this week revealed to have invested in tobacco stocks after having been named CDC director.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson allowed his son to help organize a “listening tour” in Baltimore last summer despite warnings from department lawyers that doing so risked violating federal ethics rules, according to internal documents and people familiar with the matter.

In the days before the event in late June, career officials and political appointees raised concerns that Carson’s son, local businessman Ben Carson Jr., and daughter-in-law were inviting people with whom they potentially had business dealings, the documents show.

“I expressed my concern that this gave the appearance that the Secretary may be using his position for his son’s private gain,” Linda M. Cruciani, HUD’s deputy general counsel for operations, wrote in a July 6 memo, describing her reaction upon learning of Carson’s Jr.’s involvement from other staff members.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says K.T. McFarland has withdrawn from consideration to be ambassador to Singapore.
Trump issued a statement Friday. He said McFarland served his administration “with distinction” and said Democrats “chose to play politics rather than move forward with a qualified nominee for a critically important post.”

McFarland is a former deputy national security adviser in the Trump administration and former Fox News analyst. She was nominated in May. After the Republican-majority Senate did not act on the nomination by the end of last year, McFarland was re-nominated in January.
McFarland’s nomination was in doubt amid questions about her communications with ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn." TPM

"The White House plans to withdraw its controversial nominee to head the Council on Environmental Quality, Kathleen Hartnett White, according to two administration officials briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced yet.
One of the officials briefed on Hartnett White’s plans said that her nomination had failed to gather momentum even as some of the administration’s other senior environmental policy picks had won approval, with some Senate Republicans raising questions about her expertise." WP

This clown couldn't get a security clearance because of his habit of beating his wives, but he was good enough to serve in a high White House position with a temporary clearance provided by our Dear Leader. Now, he's dating Hope Hicks. I hope she's up to speed on her ju-jitsu.

I have been wondering in this Nunes fiasco why Carter Page was ever hired as an adviser by the Trump campaign. If the FBI had been surveilling him since 2013, wouldn't someone in Trump's campaign suspect that this is a shady character? Here we have Trump and his enablers dumping on the FBI and ousting people.

But then Trump hired Flynn as his National Security adviser even after warnings from the Obama administration.

Why would the FBI let Page or Trump's campaign know they were surveilling Page?

The Obama administration warned DJD about Flynn. Figured they may have a system of heads-up without divulging any particulars. Perhaps I am misinformed.

"A White House speechwriter resigned Friday after his former wife claimed that he was violent and emotionally abusive during their turbulent two-and-a-half-year marriage — allegations that he vehemently denied, saying she was the one who victimized him.
The abrupt departure of David Sorensen, a speechwriter who worked closely with senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, came as The Washington Post was preparing a story about abuse claims by his ex-wife, Jessica Corbett. Corbett told The Post that she reported his behavior to the FBI last fall as the bureau was conducting a background check of Sorensen." WP

The former acting head of the nation's top railroad safety agency has resigned "effective immediately," the Department of Transportation said Saturday after POLITICO raised questions about whether he had been simultaneously working as a public relations consultant for a sheriff's department in Mississippi.

Heath Hall became the Federal Railroad Administration's acting administrator in June but subsequently appeared on at least two occasions in Mississippi media reports as a spokesman for the Madison County sheriff, in a community where Hall has long run a public relations and political consulting firm. The firm continued to receive payments from the county for its services from July to December, despite his pledge in a federal ethics form that it would remain "dormant" while he worked at DOT.

Is there anyone in the Trump administration who understands ethics? People thought Gen. Kelly might be the exception, but he proved himself as ethically challenged as the rest of them.

Trump and his cabinet are like a scene from "GoodFellas".

Always remember; John Gotti was very well loved in his neighborhood. He was a business owner, a plumber that did very nice things for his neighbors. Helped them out financially and shit like that........ They were all shocked that the law would suggest he was a bad man.

That's how it works. You buy enough people off that no one is listens or cares as you start digging up the bodies. Trump is doing the same thing. If he can buy off enough greedy supporters before the findings of the investigation come out, it won't matter. No one will care.

'Trump campaign co-chair gets 20 years for sexual abuse and trafficking teens'

"Tea Party leader and former Trump campaign chair Tim Nolan has pleaded guilty and received 20 years in prison for human trafficking, reports Cincinnati.com.

According to the report, Nolan, 71, a former judge, used drugs and threats of arrest to force women and girls under the age of 18 into sex acts.

Pleading guilty to 21 of the counts filed against him — for crimes committed dating back to 2004 — Nolan accepted a plea deal where he will serve 20 years in prison and pay a $100,000 fine, becoming eligible for parole in four years, his attorney stated.

Some of the incidents occurred in the summer of 2016 while Judge Nolan was serving as the chair of the Donald Trump campaign in Campbell County, KY." RS

Which is scarier — that Trump doesn’t read his daily intel briefing, or that Jared Kushner does?
Quote:

Jared Kushner’s inability to get a permanent security clearance, for reasons that are not entirely clear, has become a source of vexation at the White House. But in the meantime, he has a temporary status that allows him to “see materials, including the President’s Daily Brief, that are among the most sensitive in government,” they wrote.
Kushner's only qualification for his advisor job is his wife's last name. and he is under Mueller's investigation, yet he reads information that he is unqualified. Only the worst, the very worst.
Quote:

In the case of Kushner, there is a potential security risk but also the more immediate question of how appropriate is it for him to have access to the material under any circumstances. That takes us back to the fact that the 37-year-old real estate scion has no credential to merit holding his current White House job, outside of whom he married.

It is hard to miss the irony of it all: Wasn’t the main driver of the scandal surrounding Hillary Clinton’s emails the fact that it suggested she was careless in handling the nation’s secrets?

It's OK to Beat your Wives and Girlfriend...

... but don't admit to smoking a joint five year ago.

Washington (CNN) - A White House staffer is leaving after he learned that he wouldn't receive a permanent security clearance after he admitted to smoking marijuana, Politico reported on Wednesday.
George David Banks, a National Economic Council staffer, told Politico that the White House counsel's office informed him that his application for a permanent clearance was being denied because he admitted to smoking marijuana in 2013. He offered his resignation shortly thereafter.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/14/polit...nce/index.html

Meanwhile, Kushner omitted hundreds of foreign contacts in three revised security clearance forms and is hundreds of millions in debt to Deutsche Bank (which was tied to Russian money-laundering) and he still has access to our nation's secrets. WTF?

In my 38 years of experience traveling extensively for the government all over the world, yes. The conventional wisdom in government is that the only things that will get you fired right away is travel fraud and watching porn on government time. Both are likely encouraged within the Trump administration.;)

An Entertaining Read on Trump's Wife-Beater Scandal

Click the link and read the whole thing. It's epic.:D

Rob Porter “is a man of true integrity and honor,” a “trusted professional” and “friend to many” in the White House who were “proud to serve alongside him,” and enjoys the “full confidence and trust” of the president and Chief of Staff John Kelly. This is why “Porter did the right thing by resigning” and why “General Kelly had no tolerance” for what he was accused of. Porter “was not being honest,” was not being “forthcoming,” leaving his colleagues “very disturbed” and convinced he “had to go.”

White House officials “are all processing the shocking and troubling allegations made against” Porter, which is why they “hope he has a wonderful career and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him.”

Porter “says he’s innocent and I think you have to remember that. He said very strongly yesterday that he’s innocent,” which explains why “it became apparent to us that the allegations were true.”

Porter “is someone of the highest integrity and exemplary character” and is the victim of “a coordinated smear campaign.” As a result, there is “no reason not to believe the women” who accused him, and his “resignation was appropriate.”
