A Federal Judge has overturned the odious Proposition 8, making same sex marriage unconstitutional. The decision was based on both due Process and Equal Protection considerations.

Back to the OP. Even though this ruling is correct IMHO and foreshadows where things will ultimately end up in this country, this is but a small skirmish and maybe only a temporary victory in the culture wars. The GOP will do what it can to retain it as a wedge issue.

The wedge is getting nibbled away bit by bit. When a Republican governor refuses to even enforce the statute, some of the sting is gone.
