The only reason there is religion is because our species developed self-awareness. The resulting fact is that as a species we can't accept death, much less all too frequent stupid, meaningless, absurd accidental death along with the violent malicious death that we perp on each other on a regular basis. Thus the almost universal delusion.

Yep, a lot of people need an artifice to help explain the inexplicable.

Religion is one of those interesting arguments - one one hand you can't prove there is a God, but on the other hand you can't prove there is not. :-)

You misunderstand. They need the threat of an angry god and hell in order to meet the needs of the priests and scribes for a comfortable living.

But no other in Modern times had the impact of 9/11.

That makes for certain feelings on the part of some, and not on the part of others.
