A new government study shows how IMPOTUS’ tariffs have backfired
IMPOTUS promised to revive manufacturing with tariffs. A Federal Reserve study finds he did the opposite.

Did anyone besides idiot Trumpkins ever think the tariffs would work? Small wonder the resident Trumpkins have gone into hiding.

Grassley tells 'whoever keeps watch on' Trump to read up on Roaring '20s

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/...aring-twenties

For you Trumpkin idiots (Whell, et al): Grassley is a Repube.

Quote:

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Thursday tweeted that “whoever keeps watch” on President Trump at the White House should read a Wall Street Journal op-ed warning of the policy mistake of the 1920s that preceded the Great Depression.

Grassley took specific aim at Peter Navarro, the senior White House moron behind Trump’s aggressive use of tariffs to negotiate with trading partners such as Canada, Mexico, China and the European Union.

Henninger warned in his Dec. 31 piece of potential parallels to the booming 1920s, also known as the Roaring '20s, when the nation witnessed spectacular economic growth, especially in the major cities, followed by the financial crash and nearly a decade of the Great Depression.

“In 1930, under Republican President Herbert Hoover, a Republican Congress passed the Smoot-Hawley tariff on imports, which walloped a world economy already in decline. Mr. Trump is the greatest lover of tariffs since Hoover, Smoot or Hawley,” he wrote.

Grassley tweeted that he has been trying to impart the same lesson to Trump since the president took office in 2017, switching to all capital letters to drive home his point.

They all go back to their safe spaces eventually, can’t handle facts. Dondilion is the only low-education delusional still here, stumping for his cult master Carlson. Sad.

The central aim of Trump's China effort is to decouple China from strategically important US industries. To a large part he has succeeded.

donquixote99 02-22-2020 10:37 AM

That sounds good, intelligent, worth doing. Because it sounds good and supports the anti-China thrust that you like, you enjoy believing it. But it's not what Trump says he is doing. Trump instead says totally idiotic things like 'tariffs bring money into the country.'

Beware believing enjoyable things, when on the face of it, Trump never ever does anything good, intelligent, or worth doing.

You really are this ignorant, aren't you? You're embarrassingly stupid. :(

Trump's buffoonery is misleading. His decoupling team is hardcore.

Read the link. Seems you meant something different by 'decoupling' than I assumed. I envisioned an effort to make the US self-sufficient in high-tech strategic manufacturing, a thing clearly not possible and not happening. Instead, what we are doing is prompting a robust Chinese effort to be self-sufficient. This may not work out as the administration seems to hope.

It relates to speed of acquiring new technology through connectivity.
US intends to slow that.
China showed its hand when it announced "Made in China 2025".

The manufacturing is being moved to countries which are not gearing up to fight US.
In general manufacturing is not coming back to the US, whatever returns will heavily involve robots.

It's enough, all things considered,
to being one around toward the basic Chinese point-of-view: deregulation very dangerous, massive regulation necessary and beneficial.

It seems central planning in China did work and central planners became more credible after 2008 financial melt down.

What is obvious is that the US political leadership and business were intimidated by the fear of losing out in the huge China market.

The Chinese used this fear effectively and understood the efficacy of lobbying.

All of Trump's policy failures can be explained by the fact that he does not know what he is doing and doesn't listen to those who do.

Very complex problems appear easy to solve if you have no grasp of them.

Donny fails his own test on trade

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump...172559053.html

Quote:

As a presidential candidate in 2016, Donald Trump railed against the U.S. trade deficit with the rest of the world, and with China and Mexico in particular. “Biggest trade deficit in many years!” he tweeted in June of 2016. “I will fix it.”

He hasn’t. “Has he lost the battle with the trade deficit? The numbers say yes, absolutely,” Chris Rogers of research firm Panjiva says in the latest episode of the Yahoo Finance Electionomics podcast. “Exports to China actually went down before they came back up. The fact that he's gone to war with other countries and regions in trade has meant they've put tariffs on. So that's cut exports.”
ONLY I CAN FIX IT!

Four more years of the idiot, and we'll be a "shithole country".

Canada was also excluded. As was Mexico. Might be because they aren't Asian-Pacific countries. That being said, Trump's trade war is precedent breaking grandstanding. Hopefully his precedent breaking won't become the norm.
