I don't see that being a veteran means one gives up their right to an individual opinion on military/governmental affairs nor the right to protest military actions or policies one believes to be bogus. The whole, "You will respect and praise the military no matter what!" thing is, as Zeke likes to point out, elitist at best, and IMO, disasterous at worst. As I see it, the military is merely a division of the federal government, should face public scrutiny and, yes, even our scorn when malfeasance is discovered.
That being said, individual members of our military, whose personal merits cannot be known to the casual acquaintance should be treated with a basic modicum of respect.
