I'm settled in for this baby. :D

NOTE: I thought the "Onion" thread was a joke... My error, I will re-post, there.

Let the fracking on public lands begin!!! :)

My friend summarized it in a relatively humorous way: In case you missed the State of the Union, I've prepared this summary: Bin Laden is dead. America. Congress should do some stuff we all know they won't. Bad milk joke. Military. America.

Kind of like Newt at the republican debates.

"Obama sucks. Reagan, Reagan, Reagan. I'm just like Reagan. It's all Obamas fault. Reagan, Reagan. Obama bad. Reagan Republican. Obama did it. I'm Reagan back from the dead. Obama hates freedom. Reagan, Reagan. All of these other guys suck. I'm a true Reagan conservative. Mitt kills puppies. Reagan, Reagan. Blacks are lazy. Goldwater, Reagan..........."

Every week, sometimes twice a week for a friggin' year.

At lunch we were watching part of the debate before last. Jeff, one of the mechanics I work with asked;

"What is it with idiots who think they can use past associations with a great man to make everyone think they're like him?":p:D:);)

Look everyone, Dj was paying attention.
I was sure one of you would have picked up on that, at the very least.

All the Reagan talk always reminds me of a really interesting comparison between Stalin and Reagan that I read some time back. I don't necessarily agree with some of the author's points, but it's an interesting read.

""Conservatives defending George W. Bush are in the same situation as Communists defending Stalin. Stalin was never a "socialist" and Bush was never a "compassionate conservative", but the conservatives just don't want to hear any criticism and will go out of their way to deny facts. The current construction of the conservative movement in the US descends through the anti-Communists during and after WWII, the George Wallace "America First" blue-collar workers, the racists that Wallace picked up that switched parties during Nixon's Southern Strategy, and the nascent libertarian movement championed by Barry Goldwater. Ronald Reagan's acceptance speech for Goldwater during the 1964 Republican National Convention laid out the insistence of a balanced budget: "There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States." And yet, like Lenin revising Marx, when Reagan was governor of California he didn't practice fiscal restraint. And when he was elected president in 1980 he did the exact opposite of his campaign promise and triple the deficit and there has been "no fiscal and economic stability" since his flip-flop. Fiscal restraint was never implemented.""

Interesting.

".....we will not return to the ideology that caused this......"---President Obama, State of the Union address, 2012.

I knew that one woud piss them off. If any of them were paying attention.

That's where I came in because I had to attend a HOA meeting. The meeting & the speech were both painful.

Jeez Zeke, way to clutter up the board :D

The champion of the greenies won't allow a pipeline, but says heck yes let's frack? And just why does 'let's frack' sound dirty?

Btw, I didn't know the Pres passed the budget. Reagan could do anything!

That position is not really inconsistent. If the primary concern is carbon emissions, which has been an Obama priority all along, choosing natural gas over oil sands is a no-brainer. The oil to be transported through the Keystone pipeline requires tremendous energy to be extracted. Natural gas, on the other hand, produces about half as much carbon.

And yes, if you have ever watched Battlestar Gallactica (the new version) - "frack" is the substitute f-bomb, as is "freaking" in other contexts. My boys knew that they could barely get away with "freaking" in front of their mother.

Regards,

D-Ray
