They were tough. For awhile, I had 'em stacked with my buddy's Pioneer R700's, and we sent the Pioneer's back to the shop a couple of times blowing smoke, while the Altec's just kept belting it out. Overall, I think the R700's were better speakers soundwise. Chas |
Never heard them, but always thought they'd be bass heavy with that huge woofer and the tiny, paper tweet. But, get a nice supertweet to set on top and you might have something great.

Hmm, looks like a 5 in hole there, put one of my pair of 375's in there, refoam the bass, and then produce nice music for your entire neighborhood to enjoy. :D Carl |
Thanks for the input everyone....that is nice system Merrylander....I have a 701 Pioneer at work right now it is a great deck.
I am having buyers remorse this morning since from what Charles and others have said they do not seem to be the best Altecs....I am taking a bunch of audio stuff to the SA if I find the receipt I might return them I have 7 days... Carl what is a 375 a tweeter? are you talking about the tweeter dimensions or the bass port? Robbin |
They are JBL's that are more like a midrange.

I just might see if my RSL 3600 woofers will fit...since they are designed for a ported system (l100 clone)
they might work....and I have some Philip Soft dome tweeters too....nothing else going on this weekend. |

I had the 1st model Santana without the vent & adjustable crossover. They also had the 15" bi flex woofer. The tweeters should have been used in a Short-o-matic transistor radio. Chas |
