A question on religion in sport

I am curious as to how my fellow posters feel about this, it's fairly common, especially in the south. The team captain, before and after games prays to God in the team huddle coercing all team members to join in.

Is this totally acceptable at a public college?

bobabode 01-01-2014 10:01 PM

Nope. Not at a publically funded college, imo. Coerced or otherwise.

Separation of church and state.

Oh, Boy, here we go.........

...true dat. I don't get praying to win a game or praying for money, for that matter. Seems a little presumptuous and antithetical but what do I know? I'm the son of a subversive Methodist minister.

In the South especially it is bad politics to oppose such prayers. :D

Most politicians just adjust to the atmosphere....constitution be damned.

Anyway violent games such as football really need prayers.

They are not praying, they are Tebowing.

Both the House and the Senate have their own chaplains. Prayers are non denominational but the chaplains are and have been Christians.

Tebow was nothing but a showboat.

In fact, I think that's what most of this waving around ones Christian beliefs in public is.

As a side note; I've lived in Virginia since 1986. I have been informed that the best way to pick up
chicks in the South is to hang out in church. I've even been told that that is where the "biggest freaks"
are found.......

Just thought I would share that with you.

Dave

Tebow has showboated himself into a spot with ESPN and a future hot media commodity.

I don't think God is terribly worried about how many TDs are scored on a daily basis...
