Climate Inequality Exists in U.S. Cities and Has Deep Racist Roots

That has got to be the dumbest article of all time, leaving me to believe that rag should definitely change its name and take out the word "scientific."

Right now, East Cleveland (a predominately black neighborhood in Ohio) is 24 degrees.

Windermere, Florida (a rich predominately WASP community) is 70 degrees.

This does beg some questions, besides the obvious: (Who is dumb enough to give Scientific American any credibility at all after such an idiotic racist article?)

1. The urban heat island effect is entirely real. Large concentrations of concrete conduct heat. So why do people of color choose to live in such areas? Why don't they just move to smaller towns, where ironically the housing costs are a lot less?

2. In Florida, the Orlando area is significantly hotter than the southwest portion of the state, even though the southwest is closer to the equator. All that concrete, used to build all those theme parks and massive housing developments. And it has Washington Shores and Pine Hills, neighborhoods with people of color and low income people all over the place. Pine Hills features a butt load of West Indian immigrants. What in the hell made them choose Orlando, where housing prices are going through the roof, over some of the smaller towns in southwest Florida where rents and housing prices are much lower, and the Gulf breezes cools everything down?


3. Where is the scientific evidence that climate and weather is racist?

No one says climate and weather are racist. But is possible to argue for racist effects in policy decisions that affect housing patterns and stuff like flooding risk, for example.

And you might as well list the policy decisions that were racist in your opinion. What was the legislation?

What policies caused Blacks in inordinate numbers to locate to allegedly hot sections of cities? Can you name those policies? What policies caused Blacks to locate to areas with flooding risk?

Since you may need a little example, tell us what Louisiana policy caused a large number of blacks to locate to New Orleans and the Lake Ponchartrain, where the levee broke during Katrina.

You might even want to go back further in history to track the race of the few THOUSANDS who drowned when the levee of Lake Okeechobee burst during a hurricane in the early 20th Century. Oh, and those farmers were not black.

Those were the days of Democrat Jim Crow Laws. I would agree with you that Democrat policies have hurt Blacks for centuries. In big blue state cities with rent controls, lower income Blacks definitely were lacking in housing options.


It took a Republican President Reagan and Republican President Trump to expand the national economy to where Blacks were able to get high paying jobs at rapid rates. They were able to pull themselves up by bootstraps and achieve better lives.

If you have a problem with that, with the TRUTH, the source of your problem isn't some alleged "troll."

Florida is the most intelligent state in the Union. Thanks for proving it for me.

There is nothing else to take away from the article. There's no mention of why Blacks VOLUNTARILY chose to live in areas that are allegedly hotter that other areas.

You need to actually read it.

The real question is how to deal with people who draw the conclusion that climate is racist from the linked article.

You don't even know the meaning of that word. And it does not address climate at all.

But to bring you up to speed, the failing Washington Post mentions that redlining was outlawed 50 years ago but is still a problem.

You don't want discussion. You don't want to have to think. You just want to call names, insult and protect your illusions.
