Q-anon and "The Storm".

An old friend who is unfortunately a conspiracy theory aficionado put me on to this. As with religion in general, I am incapable of this degree of faith in the unverified word of someone I have no reason to trust.

There is obviously an international conspiracy to use propaganda mindworms to induce outright mental illness in susceptible individuals.

This is from Newsweak. A medium which for several years has been pushing war.

Newsweek is infinitely more credible than Infowars or 4 Chan.

Do you consider the Wash Post any better than Newsweek? This originated at the Wash Post (link to Chicago Trib).

Wow. And I thought Whell and Zero were looney tunes. This stuff is madness. Hard to imagine anyone takes it seriously, but when you consume InfoWars, Faux and Limblow as your “news”, I suppose it’s possible.

donquixote99 08-11-2020 05:14 PM

Crisis cults are very attractive to people who highly need a way to feel OK in, well, a crisis. And we right now are having a long term political/economic crisis that is enriching a few oligarchs while impoverishing the many, a pandemic crisis that is so poorly managed it is killing a thousand plus people a day, and an acute economic crisis caused by the pandemic and aggravated by derelict leadership, and more political crisis stemming from the demagogic/authoritarian efforts to distract from it all as the election looms. Hell, it's a wonder we don't have 10 Q-Anons.

donquixote99 08-11-2020 05:16 PM

Trumpism itself is a 'crisis cult,' of course.

We need much stronger tort, libel, slander laws in this country. Something along the line to protect against this form of misguided mind control of the vulnerable.

donquixote99 08-14-2020 07:51 AM

You don't have to brainwash all of the people all of thectine--just 50%+1 of the ones that vote. Not even that many with the electoral college involved....

From FB:
"We have instincts to love hero figure leaders and hate enemies and villains. This means it feels good and right to activate these instincts. That's how they work to motivate us. Critical thinking, in comparison, is generally difficult and not very emotionally rewarding at all. Indeed, if you haven't been doing it, the results are just about certain to be quite unpleasant."

QAnon fans spread fake claims about real fires in Oregon

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/11/tech/...ory/index.html

Quote:

Authorities in Oregon are pleading with the public to only trust and share information verified by official sources about the unprecedented wildfires sweeping the state. The pleas come as law enforcement agencies described 911 dispatchers being overrun with calls about a false online rumor that "Antifa" members had been arrested for setting the fires — a claim promoted by the anonymous account behind the QAnon conspiracy theories.

The incident highlights how online conspiracy theories, a sustained right-wing campaign to create increased fear of anti-fascist groups, and amplification of false claims by QAnon followers, have real consequences.

On Friday, the FBI responded, saying, "reports that extremists are setting wildfires in Oregon are untrue."
Like Insane, who posts untruths like these constantly, these people are dangerous, and must be silenced.

donquixote99 09-11-2020 07:08 PM

Something I had not realized, but it's obvious when pointed out: QAnon in a Nazi cult, rebranded. If you've ever looked at the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion,' the QAnon schtick should be very familiar....

Just flirting with the idea, guys. I'm definite that the crime of mental poisoning exists, but I'm still a bit unsure about how well trying to detect and punish it would go....

donquixote99 09-12-2020 06:36 AM

BTW, let's not lose sight of the QAnon-Nazi comparison. The parallels with classic anti-semitism and the blood libel are actually stunning.

QAnon Key Figure Revealed as Financial Information Security Analyst from New Jersey

https://www.logically.ai/articles/qa...rom-new-jersey

Quote:

Jason J. Gelinas, an information technology speci@llst from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, whose CV lists prominent positions with both Credit Suisse and Citigroup, is the founder and sole employee of Patriot Platforms LLC, which is credited as the developer behind the QMap and Armor of God platforms. Gelinas’s home address is, in fact, a mere seven-minute drive from Patriot Platforms LLC’s listed P.O. box, also in Berkeley Heights; further investigation shows the connection between Gelinas’s personal WhatsApp and Patriot Platforms’ listed phone number.
Having worked with IT types for many years before retirement, I'm not at all surprised at this clown's CV. Many in IT are very narrowly educated, with the Liberal Arts barely or never being a part of their education. The ones I worked with were fanatical players of violent "kill or be killed" video games. They were not capable of having a civil conversation about art, music or literature.

The websites this pig was running have a familiar ring to them: they sound very much like the sites our resident conspiracy theorist and IT guy Insane keeps posting "news" from.

His primary QAnon site has been shut down.

What are the true goals of QAnon? It's the 21st century's ultimate catfish scheme
All the elements of the QAnon conspiracy theory have been carefully selected and repackaged — but by whom, and why?

Quote:

According to my friend, initiates of the Illuminati had teamed up with subterranean demons to torture, rape and eat kidnapped children in underground military bases ruled by the mortal enemies of Donald Trump. He insisted that when Trump is re-elected in November we can all look forward to the abolition of the income tax, the development of "free energy" for all and the public unveiling of thousands of grateful kidnapped children rescued by Trump's private army of "white hats" from cages squirrelled away in these Satanist-controlled underground dungeons.
Wow. Sounds eerily like the nonsense this Insane clown posts here. He's very likely an adherent of this insanity.

Oerets 09-13-2020 03:33 PM

'Biden shut down that pipeline and now the price of gas has shot up $0.39 and the stock market crashed.'
'The Confederacy was run by Democrats so, therefore all Democrats today are racists.'

This is the depth of your average Trump voter. All that stuff behind the headline is just too boring and confusing for them.

Rajoo 02-22-2021 04:15 PM

it just occurred to me that axiom that the modern day godfather of Republicanism Ronald Reagan popularized, "trust but verify" has somehow escaped the trumpers. They cannot analyze information or confront facts, which is a complex thought process. So sad and this explains why.

Pio1980 02-22-2021 07:47 PM

I paraphrase as "don't trust, verify".
BTW, is citizen X in the penalty box?

I noticed him blatantly crossing some lines. I speculate he wasn't getting what he liked here, we didn't trigger so easily. Moderator action would offer a 'face-saving' exit, in his mind.

But keep in mind actually discussing moderator action is a sure path to the penalty box.
