Q-anon and "The Storm".
An old friend who is unfortunately a conspiracy theory aficionado put me on to this. As with religion in general, I am incapable of this degree of faith in the unverified word of someone I have no reason to trust.

There is obviously an international conspiracy to use propaganda mindworms to induce outright mental illness in susceptible individuals.

The conspiracy theory behind a curious Roseanne Barr tweet, explained |
Wow. And I thought Whell and Zero were looney tunes. This stuff is madness. Hard to imagine anyone takes it seriously, but when you consume InfoWars, Faux and Limblow as your “news”, I suppose it’s possible.

QAnon groups have millions of members on Facebook, documents show
The preliminary results of an investigation by Facebook shed new light on the scope of activity and content from the QAnon community on the platform. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...-show-n1236317 Imagine millions of clowns as looney as Insane out there! WTF is wrong with people!? |
Crisis cults are very attractive to people who highly need a way to feel OK in, well, a crisis. And we right now are having a long term political/economic crisis that is enriching a few oligarchs while impoverishing the many, a pandemic crisis that is so poorly managed it is killing a thousand plus people a day, and an acute economic crisis caused by the pandemic and aggravated by derelict leadership, and more political crisis stemming from the demagogic/authoritarian efforts to distract from it all as the election looms. Hell, it's a wonder we don't have 10 Q-Anons.

Trumpism itself is a 'crisis cult,' of course.

We need much stronger tort, libel, slander laws in this country. Something along the line to protect against this form of misguided mind control of the vulnerable.

You don't have to brainwash all of the people all of thectine--just 50%+1 of the ones that vote. Not even that many with the electoral college involved....

Dear God, it's worse and worse!
Folks are willingly gullible to utter nonsense and now, it's infecting 'Pubs with, what appears to me to be, foreign backed internet trolls LARPing these fools. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinio...ng-ncna1236845 |
From FB:
"We have instincts to love hero figure leaders and hate enemies and villains. This means it feels good and right to activate these instincts. That's how they work to motivate us. Critical thinking, in comparison, is generally difficult and not very emotionally rewarding at all. Indeed, if you haven't been doing it, the results are just about certain to be quite unpleasant." |
Something from FB worthwhile!:)

I think concocting harmful belief systems that ensare people in obsessive, insane thought patterns should be a crime. It directly compares to propagating computer viryses.

Just flirting with the idea, guys. I'm definite that the crime of mental poisoning exists, but I'm still a bit unsure about how well trying to detect and punish it would go....

BTW, let's not lose sight of the QAnon-Nazi comparison. The parallels with classic anti-semitism and the blood libel are actually stunning.

it just occurred to me that axiom that the modern day godfather of Republicanism Ronald Reagan popularized, "trust but verify" has somehow escaped the trumpers. They cannot analyze information or confront facts, which is a complex thought process. So sad and this explains why.

I paraphrase as "don't trust, verify".
