Solidarnosc, anyone?

This is going back a ways, but does anyone here remember Lech Walesa's SOLIDARNOSC movement that brought the Communist government in Poland to it's knees? Did you know that organizers from the UAW and USW were sent to Poland to help in this effort?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lech_Wa%C5%82%C4%99sa I wonder if Glenn Beck will ever do a segment on this story of how labor unions helped to bring down Communism in Eastern Europe? Or, would that kinda contradict his twisted message? Dave |
Yes, I remember that well, the way Walesa and his union brothers took over the Gdansk shipyards and dared the communists to do something about it. All heroes in my book.

Remember it well but of course beck et. al. would never admit to UAW and USW's part in it. He is not the historian sista sarah calls him, just a modern day revisionist.

I was living in Germany at the time and remember it very well. It was front and center in the news for a long time. As for Beck or Limbaugh publicly recognizing the unions' contribution to this, I think we'll first see pigs flying.

Another excellent article on this subject.
http://www.gdansk-life.com/poland/solidarity Take the time to read the comments, if you can. Dave |
I was living in a heavily Polish neighborhood at the time :) Very exciting.
Exciting. I wonder if the far lefties in media will recognise the Churches contribution? ;) Pete |

Of course, in this particular instance, the motivations were far from spiritual. We had a Polish pope who saw an opportunity to weaken the atheistic government of his native country and restore the Vatican's power there. It was as much a turf battle as anything else. John |
