My very first car was actually a 1956 Beetle convertible. It was a gift of an old man. I was 17 back then. It was totally corroded so I sold it for about 150 Euros. The buyer restored it. And now it is in an as new condition and the value is about 30000 Euros.
Picture from 1979 shows the car on the left, on the right the 1975 convertible of my mother. |
My first car was a '68 Beetle. It was a gas in the snow -- really built well for donuts. Also had a VW bus. Darn thing cost me about 15 albums. When I moved back from school one year, I had a rack of records too close to the back vent. Hard to play a wavy record.

I learned to drive a stick in my neighbor's '65 VW station wagon. Didn't realize how easy the VW was until I got hold of my other neighbor's '48 Dodge pickup and had to learn to double-clutch.

No, I figure he means this model, called a 'Type 3' or a Squareback.

I remember the blue "Super Beetle" my brother and his first wife had. Not sure what year it was.

In 2010 we had a nice VW Classic Cars meeting. The picture shows the extremely rare 1949 Hebmüller convertible. As a collector's item the value is now 130000 Euros, if in top condition. This one from Belgium is in a rather columbo-ish condition, you know what I mean...

"columbo-ish condition".
Ha! Exactly. :D |
