Not sure how it is in other areas, but where I live a mother can surrender a child with no charges to a fire station, police station or hospital within twenty four hours of giving birth.

Still messes up someone's life.... But that child doesn't have to endure time in a dumpster.

Well, at least that has the virtue of not being beyond their comprehension.
