GOP Poisons Flint Michigan

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...p_ref=politics

Republican Governor took control of the city, and his appointed Supervisor disconnected the supply from Lake Erie and started using water from the Flint River without making the appropriate modifications that are necessary when using river water, resulting in lead soldering to corrode and enter the city's water.

All to save money. This is what happens when you let a Republican Governor have the power to override local governments in an extreme manner. He should be impeached for this.
The people of Flint did not make this decision. It was forced on them.

A GM plant had to truck in water because the river sourced water was damaging their production of engine parts.

Yeah, that story has been circulating on "alternative media" for several months. Republicans and Libertarians disgust me.

BlueStreak 12-19-2015 03:04 PM

Yep, this is what happens when you let stingy ignoramuses run things........cut, cut, cut, cut..................without a whit of concern for consequences. All that matters to these people is stuffing their own pockets with tax cut money.

BlueStreak 12-19-2015 03:13 PM

When I think of the fiscal policies of the far right, it brings to mind some maintenance managers I've worked with. They decide they're spending too much money on machine parts..........

So, rather than do the hard work and figure out why they use so much in the first place, they simply stop buying them. Then when they end up spending huge money to overnight a $500 part, they demand to know who's responsible and how this could have been prevented.

Their costs double or triple, downtime rises, efficiency goes down the toilet..... But, it can't have anything to do with them or the way they do things.

donquixote99 12-19-2015 05:07 PM

I've seen the same sort of thing. A supply company put in a 'repackage from bulk' operation that required maybe 50K worth of equipment. Small scale stuff, but it took them months to get it going, and they had no budget for maintenance. When something broke, they had to scramble every time for money. Then when something a little pricy broke, they couldn't get the money to fix it. "Capital expenses are frozen." Basically, they never got it going again. Junked the whole investment.

I blamed it on 'a supply company trying to do a manufacturing-type operation.' Sad to hear that guys who are flat-out manufacturers are just as stupid.

Avoid downtime. Stock critical parts. You wouldn't think that would be such an obscure concept....

ebacon 12-19-2015 09:26 PM

It's easy to criticize Flint's water woes. What would you have done to prevent them and still do today? And while you are at it, use your real name like Ross Perot did. And I do.

I am Ed Bacon.

donquixote99 12-19-2015 09:31 PM

Sorry, if you want to risk a visit from some Internet crazy you can. I'll try to avoid. I've seen some crazy here and there, too.

You spend the money, or you turn off the water and tell everyone to go away, I guess. But you don't ignore a lead poisoning thing.

bobabode 12-19-2015 09:37 PM

Bob-a-Doobie here ;), It's called the Clean Water Act and a myriad of state laws that says you can't poison the people, Ed.

Fr*#k Gov. Snyder and the mule he rode in on with no lube.

Understood. That is new thought that is still on trial.

Old thought has a simple solution and I stand behind it. We should live closer to each other. Living close requires fewer pipes and reduced maintenance costs. An added benefit might be that we hang out together instead of on the internet.

:D

Maybe we should live closer to each other but we don't. Let's suppose, however, that we were to work on that. It'll take time, lots of time. What do we drink in the meantime?

There was a crazy who use to post (not for long) here. Claimed he had exceptional internet skills.

That would not do much good in my case - our water come from 300 feet under the front lawn and the sewage all gets filtered via the back forty.;)

From what I understand using river water for potable consumption is common place...the water has to be treated in a certain matter however because of higher concentration of salt than is found in the Great Lakes. I guess Snyder and Company overlooked that. Would they have been so careless with a city full of Republicans?

bobabode 12-23-2015 02:48 PM

Gov. Rick Snyder and his emergency managers in Flint should be taken out back of the statehouse and beaten with lead filled pipes.

WTF, Michigan? Where is the help for these people? Saw a Rachel Maddow piece on this tonight and people can't get a reliable supply of drinking water in the city of Flint.

23,000 water filters and it's not clear if that's every household in Flint and if replacements are being provided.

I think you have to use a figure of about 2 or 3 people for household so let's say 2-1/2 people. If you divide Flint's population of about 100,000 by 2-1/2, you get 40,000 households.

bobabode 01-13-2016 10:36 PM

Snyder finally calls out the National Guard to hand out drinking water.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...mepage%2Fstory

Meanwhile Flint is having an outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease.

Snyder needs to go... to prison. :(

donquixote99 01-13-2016 11:55 PM

Prison? That would be better than he deserves.

I prefer to think of them as greedy assholes rather than stingy. Folks who want for nothing screaming over having to spend a few pennies for the good of others. I've got mine...screw you in other words.

Long form Conservative mantra;
"Nobody will take away my God-given right to take whatever I want from whomever I please by whatever means necessary for whatever purpose I may choose."
Short form mantra, "I've got mine, fuck you."

Stunning.....

The GOP solution. Poison the little people so the ruling class won't have to pay taxes.

Tom Joad 01-15-2016 01:23 PM

Flint Michigan: 57% black, 42% poverty rate.

The same old story.

This morning I took a drive that went through one of the poorer sections of Mobile. The area is called Maysville. It's mostly black and very poor. What you notice right away is the condition of the city streets. The pavement is full of cracks and potholes and the drainage sucks. We had rain last night and there were many areas with standing water. Your vehicle really takes a beating driving through there. You don't see shit like that in the white areas. It's obvious how the maintenance bucks are allocated here.

CarlV 01-16-2016 09:56 AM

Vote GOP and get GOP'd on.
