"Water over gold":El Salvador bans all metal mining

Citing the need to protect its dwindling supply of clean water, El Salvador bans all metal mining.

Meanwhile we roll back our protections. We used to be a world leader, now we're a kleptocracy....or is it a corporatocracy.....

Either way, we can kiss clean air and water goodbye.

Here in Ca. we still have unsafe levels of Mercury toxicity in almost every body of water going back to the famous gold rush more than 150 years ago. Whether it is from using Mercury to separate gold from ore or the mining of Mercury itself. In the SF bay itself there is still enough residual Mercury runoff reaming that everybody is warned to not to consume more than 1/2lb per month, and where there is PCB's, none at all. Just so happens the proximity for no eating your catch is the Richmond Chevron refinery.

This is an interesting tidbit. Thanks you.

A problem, afaik, anywhere, particularly in the American West, where mining was common and unregulated.

Yes, no shortage out this way. Gosh, starting to think about it wow there are so many places that we are poisoning our food supply. Then there is the mining capers back east too and they are doing the same pretty much. With water like this farm raising seafood is out. Of course now anybody anywhere can sell "meat" in our markets and no disclosures of where it came from.

So much for "being good custodians of our planet" and "leaving the country a better place to be for future generations" like they used to say when I was a young pup.

The bad effects of mining are truly long lasting.

It is good to see El Salvador learn from a dumbass that does not learn from it's own shortsightedness and mistakes.
